Vibe Coding Is Changing Who Can Build Software

 For years, there was a clear barrier between having a digital idea and actually building it.

You needed programming knowledge.

Now that barrier is becoming much lower.

With AI coding tools, people can describe what they want in ordinary language and work with AI to create a prototype. The process is usually iterative: ask, test, notice what's wrong, explain the problem, and try again. Recent research describes vibe coding in much the same way—as an ongoing cycle of generation, evaluation and revision.

The Exciting Part

The most interesting thing isn't that AI can write code.

It's that more people can experiment.

A designer can build a basic tool.

A student can turn an idea into a prototype.

A small business owner can create something specifically for their own workflow.

Ideas that might once have remained ideas can now become experiments.

But There Is a Limit

Getting a program to run is not the same as building reliable software.

A prototype might work perfectly today and become a problem six months later.

Security, maintenance, scalability and unexpected bugs still matter.

That is why human oversight remains important, especially when software handles sensitive information or becomes part of a serious business.

The Skill Is Changing

Perhaps the most valuable skill isn't simply writing code anymore.

It is knowing what you want, explaining it clearly, testing the result and recognizing when the AI has made a bad decision.

Vibe coding may not make programmers unnecessary.

It may simply give more people a chance to participate in creating technology.
